Castlecroft Bridge Project

WREN aims to improve access to the Local Nature Reserve from the Castlecroft Road Bridge.

WREN (Wightwick & Regis Enterprise Network) built an all-access ramp from Hordern Road to the towpath of the Staffs-Worcester Canal in 2011 and added litter bins, benches, a picnic table and Interpretation Panels.

WREN intends to build a similar all-access ramp to the Railway Walk which passes throgh the Smestow Valley Local Nature Reserve.

WREN has improved the area under the Castlecroft Bridge with a mural designed by pupils from the local primary school, and a motor-cycle barrier to make the  Railway Walk safer for pedestrians, cyclists and wheel-chair users.  A bench and a new litter bin were installed on the South Staffs side of the Walk.  CWC Parks department installed steps to improve access to the Walk; WREN added a Welcome Platform to the entrance with fencing, hawthorn hedge and a bench.
