Admission to Primary School

Children can start in Reception class the September after their 4th birthday.  You can register your child at any Wigan Primary School, no later than the beginning of November before the child is due to start school the following September. This is not an application for a school place.

If you have registered an interest at a Wigan school, information about how to apply for a school place will be sent to you during the November before your child starts school.  Information will also be available on the Wigan Council website. If you live in Wigan you must apply online or complete a Wigan Local Authority application form and return this to any Wigan primary school by the closing date, 15th January. You can express three preferences for schools in Wigan or other Local Authority areas.  If you live in another Local Authority area and want a place in a Wigan school you must apply to your home authority and name the Wigan school as a preference.

If any of your preferred schools is a voluntary-aided (church) school, you are strongly advised to fill in the school's own supplementary information form as well as the local authority application form. Please see the Admissions to Primary School booklet for further details.

Parents who have submitted an application by closing date will be notified of the result of their application on 16th April.
