Elizabeth Fitzgerald Carter - Art Courses

Marine and river paintings inspired by journeys by kayak and sail.

Learn to paint in my studio in Shouldham, Norfolk. It is a light, bright and airy space in a purpose-built building in the peaceful setting of a tiny orchard with on-site parking. In this relaxing and friendly atmosphere I progress students (whatever their level) in an unpressured and cheerful environment. There are weekly sessions and occasionally one-day, half-day, and weekend workshops. There are also workshop days and luxury short breaks co-hosted by Norfolk Bound at Little Massingham Manor as well as regular weekly termtime courses at Norfolk Creative Arts in Grimston.

Painting in the studio

There are studio sessions for up to 3 adult students on Wednesdays between 10am and 9.30pm. Private one-to-one sessions are available to book on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The setting is idyllic in a small orchard overlooking a field where deer play and owls, kites and buzzards are frequent visitors. It is located in a typical Norfolk village with extensive woodland and farmland nearby so it is possible (weather permitting) to book for plein air teaching.

Painting Retreats at Little Massingham Manor

New for 2023 are three workshop days to relax with your paints and savour the wonderful atmosphere of Little Massingham Manor. Retreats are centred on the pleasant and well-equiped studio but if weather permits then we might take advantage of the amazing setting and paint en plein air. Set in 63 acres of superb Norfolk countryside, with topiary gardens and traditional borders surrounding an Arts & Crafts Manor House, acres of park and woodland to explore, there is endless scope for finding your painting niche. All courses include healthy but inviting menus prepared by the in-house chef and time in the woodland spa, yoga and gym can be arranged to enhance your time at LMM.
