In this section you will find a range of support services and information on education, learning and skills for children and adults living in West Berkshire.

Education in West Berkshire is available from pre-school to adult.

Early Years - Some 2 year olds and all 3 & 4 year old children can access the Free Entitlement to Early Education for 15 hours a week over 38 weeks per year. This can be accessed via a range of providers: childminders, pre-school, day nursery, school nursery class, private nursery and independent schools.


Full-time education is compulsory for all children aged between 5 and 17 (from 2013, and up to 18 from 2015), either at school or otherwise, with a child beginning primary education during the school year he or she turns 5.

Students may then continue their secondary studies for a further two years (sixth form), leading most typically to A-level qualifications, although other qualifications and courses exist, including Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) qualifications,

Full time vocational, professional and academic qualifications including appreticeships.

Community Learning Team 

(adult and family learning)  works in partnership with a range of organisations to provide learning programmes and activities for adults and families in West Berkshire.

The Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS) supports pupils from ethnic minority backgrounds and supports schools to be inclusive. Referrals accepted from any source.
