The way we deliver some early childhood services has changed.

West Berkshire's Children's Centre's have been replaced by Family Wellbeing Hubs (FWH).

These cover three geographic areas, the East, which is based in Calcot, Central which is based in Thatcham and West which is based in Newbury.The three FWH will now be working with their communities to establish 'community access points' from where the team's will continue to support and provide a range of services to ensure that parents and prospective parents receive appropriate and integrated early childhood services.

This will include;

  • early years provision (early education and childcare)

  • social services functions of the local authority

  • health services

  • training and employment services

  • Information and advice services

And work aligning to the West Berkshire Health and Wellbeing Strategy Themes.  For example;

  • Prevention - helping people live healthier lives  and create healthier workplaces by taking action on obesity, smoking, alcohol and other major health risks

  • Patient and Carer empowerment - residents will gain far greater control of their own care and have better access to information they need to manage their own health and long term conditions

  • Integrated care - new models of integrated care that cross boundaries between and within NHS and council

  • Innovation - combining different technologies and changing ways of working in order to transform care delivery
