Webinar Series - Supporting children and young people with autism and mental health needs

Ambitious about Autism and their online network of autistic young people have co-produced a webinar series about understanding autism and mental health.

In this co-produced and co-delivered seminar we discuss how mental health issues affect autistic young people and what professionals can do to support them. We will examine the barriers faced by autistic young people to accessing appropriate mental health care as well as the common misunderstandings that lead to misdiagnosis.

The webinar series has 12 dates in a lunch and learn format with 60 minutes of training and 30 minutes of Q&A. 4 sessions are BSL interpreted throughout the course of the series. The webinars will have live transcription throughout the webinar using otter.ai.

Each session is co-delivered with autistic young people, and staff who have experience in health, education, social care, employment and more.

This is further developing their award winning co-produced research into autistic mental health conducted in 2017 that produced a toolkit titled Know Your Normal which can be used by anyone in improving communication of what normal is for them to a professional and why they are worried if it changes.
