Clare Combined Charities (The Charities)
Clare Combined Charities covers management of Clare Common, allotments, almshouses, other charitable possessions and educational grants. It has nine Trustees to oversee all matters and to make decisions. Eight Trustees are appointed and bring individual skills and knowledge to The Charities, including legal matters. One Trustee is the Vicar for the time being of the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Clare, is therefore ex-officio and automatically appointed.
There are three sub-committees to oversee the running of the land possessions, the Almshouses and the Support Fund. The original constitution dates from 1882 and was last modified in 1965.
Income comes from allotment rents, land tenancy, the Countryside Stewardship scheme, Almshouses maintenance fees and interest from various investments. Expenses are paid out of the various individual accounts.
