Personal Education Budget

What is a Personal Education Budget?

A Personal Budget is the amount of money that would be needed to cover the cost of making the special educational provision specified in an EHC plan.

A Personal Budget can include funding from education, health and social care. However, the scope of the personal budget will vary depending on the needs of the individual, the eligibility criteria for the different services and the mechanism for delivery.

The majority of families are happy with the school or setting’s arrangements to make the educational provision required in their child/young person’s EHC Plan.  The parents or the young person (aged 16 and over) can request a personal education budget to secure the educational provision specified in the EHC Plan, so that the support offered to the child or young person can be further personalised to support the achievement of all or some of the outcomes set out in the EHC Plan.
