The Hamar Centre is located at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital close to the Lingen Davies Centre.

The Hamar Help and Support Centre provide counselling and support services to patients with a cancer diagnosis and their relatives and carers living in Shropshire and Mid-Wales.

They can offer:

  • One to one counselling and couples counselling. Counselling can help you to have a greater understanding of (sometimes) complex feelings as well as explore feelings and feel emotionally supported. It can help to find ways to cope with a cancer diagnosis and treatment and improve communication with loved ones and medical teams.
  • Macmillan Information & Support Centre. Offers a wide range of leaflets and information about treatments, therapies and support groups available, drop in or call to make an appointment.

  • Look Good Feel Better. A pampering therapy, where trained beauty consultants share their expertise on simple skincare and make up skills, all products are provided.

  • 8 Week Mindfulness Courses Mindfulness is about choosing to live more consciously, paying attention to living in the moment, being present now.

  • Tai Chi. They offer Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi drop in lessons at the Hamar Centre every Wednesday from 1.30pm-2.30pm

  • Complementary Therapies. A range of complementary therapies such as aromatherapy massage and reflexology are available, please contact the  Administrator to find out more.

  • Get Active Feel Good. A new physical activity project funded by Macmillan where an advisor will provide individual exercise assessments for people with cancer who may benefit from increased physical activity.

  • Support Groups. There are a range of independent support groups who meet in the Hamar Centre at various times, please contact the Centre to find out more.
