Equality Oswestry Group

The Equality Oswestry Group supports equality and diversity in affiliation with the national Equality Trust and other equality groups across the United Kingdom.

They aim to be pro-active in addressing local issues of inequality that impinge on people’s daily lives and work experiences directly affecting their emotional, mental, physical, health, social and economic well-being and development. To achieve this aim they liaise with the local community to devise ways to address inequality. This includes an established online Equality Oswestry Facebook page, as well as posters and fliers about the group which can be picked up in Oswestry Library, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, and other local public places, whilst public meetings and round table discussions provide the opportunity to raise inequality issues and highlight ways forward.

The Equality Oswestry Group is currently focused on raising equality for the older generation given the dramatic effects of the pandemic which prevented many from socialising and getting out and about. Following the Group's successful Oswestry Town Council grant application, they are liaising with a local residential home, primary school and pre-school/nursery group to develop intergenerational links, setting up Singing for the Brain sessions and compiling practical resource packs for families in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Society and Age UK local contacts.

The Equality Oswestry Group holds monthly committee meetings via Zoom or face-to-face at 7pm mostly on the first Monday of the month. Anyone interested in attending a meeting to find out more is very welcome to join them.
