Shrewsbury Environment Centre

Shrewsbury Environment Centre provides a free, accessible, central location for finding out about a range of local, regional, national and international environmental issues including:

  • Do It For David Oswestry
  • Fordhill Organic Farm
  • Green Exchange Shropshire
  • Incredible Edible
  • Ludlow Green Fair
  • No Butts
  • Plastic-Free Shopping Shrewsbury
  • Shrewsbury Litter Action Project
  • Sustainable Bridgnorth
  • Whitchurch Blackberry Fair.

The Centre, which is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11am to 4pm, offers the chance for individuals to gain a greater understanding of what actually happens to waste and recycling, where it goes and what it becomes; as well as education on the nature of waste materials, particularly plastics, exploring what they are made of and what they may be made into.

Other initiatives include:

  • growing a community based plastic recycling framework based on the work of ‘Fantastic Plastic’ Netherlands;
  • providing wall maps to aid plastic-free shopping in Shrewsbury, litter picking and countryside walks around the town,
  • a display of ‘upcycled’ goods from around the world, providing inspiration for what may be made from waste and the high quality of it
  • provision of workshops on transforming waste / recycling into objects of reuse or decoration
  • opportunities for cross-generational play and art activities
  • volunteering opportunities, particularly for those passionate about the environment and keen to enthuse others.

The Centre also offers an accessible meeting space, available for meetings, talks or workshops for a donation.

For more information, please follow the link to visit their Facebook page, or call in during opening hours.
