South West Shropshire Historical and Archaeological Society
Description:
The South West Shropshire Historical and Archaeological Society (SWSHAS) holds a season of talks each year from September to April. The last talk of the season on April is the annual Ritherdon Lecture, which is named after one of the group's founder members. The Society also organises outings to visit places of historical interest, displays at various events and exhibitions.
Resources are available at the Bishop's Castle Heritage Centre where the SWSHAS Research Group meets on the third Thursday of each month from 2pm to 4pm. The society's library can also be accessed at the Bishop's Castle Heritage Resource Centre. There is an annual Journal and the Chris Train History Essay Prize, held in memory of a previous Chairman, is awarded at the April meeting.
