Cancer Equality
Description:
Cancer Equality was founded in 1999 to address the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities. The organisation was registered as a charity in 2001.
The group were keen to ensure that, despite the closure of BME specific cancer services, the knowledge, expertise and learning gained through these services should not be lost but built upon.
Initially Cancer Equality designed and managed successful partnership projects aimed at addressing the information and support needs of people with cancer and their carers with other organisations such as The Afiya Trust and The Cancer Resource Centre. In 2003 the organisation secured funding from the Department of Health to establish a national BME cancer resource centre.
