FND Action
Description:
FND Action is a registered charity whose aim is to support those diagnosed with a Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), including Non Epileptic Attack Disorder (NEAD).
Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a common and disabling cause of neurological symptoms. People with FND can experience a wide variety of symptoms including:
- weakness and abnormal patterns of movement (eg tremor, abnormal posturing of limbs, gait problems)
- attacks of abnormal movement / change in awareness that resemble epileptic seizures (functional seizures / NEAD)
- sensory problems
- cognitive problems
- visual and speech problems.
Whilst the symptoms may appear similar to neurological diseases including those of Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s and Epilepsy, and can be just as disabling, they are not caused by structural disease of the nervous system, but instead are a problem with the “functioning” of the nervous system.
FND Action was founded by a group of people who had been diagnosed themselves, and who wanted to come together to provide help and support to others. Their team are all volunteers from across the country, who dedicate their time to supporting people diagnosed. In addition they work with medical professionals, charities and organisations alike, to raise much-needed awareness to help improve the treatment and care available within the NHS.
