Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY)

Description:

CRY work to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families.

CRY offer information on heart conditions and strokes, treatments, pathology, and living with these conditions. Bereavement support service are also available.

What they do:

  • CRY offers subsidised ECG and Echocardiogram screening to all young people between the ages of 14 & 35.
  • After a young sudden cardiac death, Cardiac Risk in the Young offer emotional support to the family, as well as offering clinical support through expert pathology and expert cardiology as part of their bereavement programme.
  • CRY Bereavement Support Days are for people who would like to understand more about how to cope with the sudden loss of a young person (aged 35 and under) through a cardiac related condition; would like to meet others who have suffered a similar loss.
  • Sudden death syndrome (SDS) is an umbrella term used for the many different causes of cardiac arrest in young people. CRY provides medical information on the most common causes of unexpected sudden cardiac death
  • CRY supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected by YSCD. CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research.
  • After a young sudden cardiac death, Cardiac Risk in the Young offer emotional support to the family, as well as offering clinical support through expert pathology and expert cardiology as part of their bereavement programme
