Wenlock Olympian Society

Description:

The primary purpose of Wenlock Olympian Society (WOS) is to organise the annual Wenlock Olympian Games, which includes live arts competitions in March, the half marathon in May and sports competitions in July, all held at venues across Shropshire and centred on Much Wenlock. The first Wenlock Olympian Games were held in 1850 in Much Wenlock with seven events. Today the Games has three live arts events and twenty two sports events, and entries to the competitions are welcomed from local, national and international competitors.

In addition to the annual Games, WOS works to support its affiliated clubs and to maintain and promote the ideals of Dr William Penny Brookes, who was the inspiration for the Modern Olympic Games held today.

For more information about the live arts and sports events at the Wenlock Olympian Games and how to enter; and about WOS and its founder, William Penny Brookes, follow the link to visit the website.
