National Literacy Trust
Description:
The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK and giving disadvantaged children, young people and families the literacy skills to succeed.
Literacy is one of the UK’s greatest challenges. If a child lacks vital literacy skills - the ability to read, write, speak and listen - they can be held back at every stage of their life. As a child they won't be able to succeed at school, as a young adult they will be locked out of the job market, and as a parent they won't be able to support their own child's learning. This intergenerational cycle makes social mobility and a fairer society more difficult.
The Trust work in the UK’s poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians, businesses and parents, and support schools and early years settings. All of their work is underpinned by pioneering research and analysis.
