Bryn Y Castell Coppice Conservation Group (Gobowen)
Description:
The Bryn Y Castell Coppice Conservation group was established in November 2010 by a group of volunteers in Gobowen. The aim of the group is to work with Shropshire Council to preserve Bryn Y Castell Coppice for the community's enjoyment and to enhance the woodland for recreation, biodiversity, interpretation and education.
A number of projects have been carried out so far within the Coppice. Following the initial litter pick to clear the site, the group continues to clear litter from the site and have planted over 100 native British trees, including a Jubilee Oak from the Royal gardens at Sandringham. Accessibility has been improved by the installation of steps at the entrance to the coppice and a bridge over a ditch within the woodland. Bird and bat boxes have been installed and their usage is monitored. The group also carries out regular surveys of the tree, flower, wildlife, insect and bird species that can be found in the coppice.
Work days are held on the second Saturday of each month from 9am to 11am. The group meets at the entrance to the Coppice.
Anyone interested in volunteering to work with the group would be most welcome. For more informaiton, please contact Mrs Laraway.
