Children Missing Education

Rochdale Borough Council’s system for identifying and maintaining contact with children missing from education and the steps being taken to identify those at risk.

Within Rochdale, children missing education is defined across separate categories called Children Missing Education (CME) and Children Missing Out on Education (CMOoE).

What is CME?

CME is defined as someone of compulsory school age who is not on a school roll, not being otherwise educated such as, educated at home, in an independent school or in alternative provision.

It could also be a child who has been out of any educational provision for four weeks or more and after reasonable enquiries still cannot be located.

What is CMOoE?

CMOoE is defined as someone of compulsory school age who is not on a school roll or being otherwise educated such as, educated at home, in an independent school or in alternative provision. Children that fall within this category will have a known whereabouts.

If a child is on a school roll

For children on a school roll but there are issues with school attendance, you would need to consult with the Education Welfare Service for further advice and guidance.
