North West Ambulance Service

About

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) NHS Trust provides a 24 hour, 365 days a year emergency service to those people in need of emergency medical treatment. We also provide a non-emergency service known as the Patient Transport Service (PTS).

NWAS deals with more than one million emergency calls a year. These are dealt with by the Trust's emergency control centres across the North West. Our control centres are based in Manchester, Liverpool and Preston.

In an emergency dial 999 immediately or for urgent medical advice call NHS 111.

Patient Transport Service

We provide Patient Transport Services in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale and we have four contact and control centres in Preston, Carlisle, Oldham and Chester.

To support our delivery of PTS, we also operate a third party framework which utilises private ambulances and taxi companies who have to comply with our strict operating guidelines and governance to ensure the safe transportation of all our patients at all times.
