Oral Health for the elderly programme

About

Our service is to improve the oral health of the elderly population in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale and reduce the prevalence on aspirating pneumonia and hospital aquired pneumonia.

What we do

We work closely with the care at home workforce and equip it to meet the changing and growing demand for the elderly in regard to oral health through a more person focussed care, improving the provision of oral health for the elderly and ultimately improve health and social care outcomes.

How it works

The oral health improvement facilitator raises awareness of the importance of oral health and nutrition and supports services to improve the oral health of the elderly population of the borough.

We improve care staff/social care/nurse's knowledge to be aware of the risk factors for oral health and appropriate techniques to prevent oral disease, dry mouth and possible aspirating pneumonia.
