Break4Change child to parent violence/abuse programme (11-16 years old)

About

Break4Change is a group programme for families where the young person engages in repeated abusive behaviour towards a parent or adult carer.

Abusive behaviour can include physical violence; emotional, economic or sexual abuse; and coercive control. It may also include damage to property and abuse towards other family members, particularly siblings.

Practitioners please log in for further information and referral form.

What we do

This is a 10 week group programme running for 2 hours a week for both young people aged 11 - 16 years and their parents/carers.  The family must be open to a multi-agency plan of support with early help or children’s social care to access the programme.

It is a skills-based, restorative group programme focusing on non-violence and mutual respect between family members with an aim to improve relationships.

Separate group sessions are run with parents / carers and the young people at the same time in adjacent venues.

Parents/carers and young people are offered a restorative communication dialogue between each other throughout the programme through film and the young people’s groups has a creative element providing an opportunity of expression through collaborative portrait artwork.

Referrals to the programme must be by a professional involved with the plan. We offer pre-programme and wrap around support for the family and link with your plan via our dedicated B4C family workers.

For professionals to refer families to this programme please complete a Break4change referral form with the family and email it to: parenting@rochdale.gov.uk
