SANE

SANE is a leading UK mental health charity. We work to improve the quality of life for anyone affected by mental illness.

What we do

Our three main objectives are:

  • To raise awareness and combat stigma about mental illness, educating and campaigning to improve mental health services.
  • To provide care and emotional support for people with mental health problems, their families and carers as well as information for other organisations and the public.
  • To initiate research into the causes and treatments of serious mental illness such as schizophrenia and depression and the psychological and social impact of mental illness.

Our mental health support services are confidential. We offer non-judgemental and compassionate emotional support. Our team of mental health professionals and trained volunteers create a space where you feel safe to talk about things that are most affecting you. We also make time so we can think together about the options available to you.

Our support

Mental Health Support Forum

Our Support Forum facilitates a key part of the SANE online community and is a safe space to offer support, ideas and share experiences. The forum is available 24 hours a day.

Mental Health Helpline

Our helpline is here to support you when you feel you have reached a moment of crisis. We know that moment of crisis is different for everybody – some people can reach that point daily, and for some people it is a rare occurrence. The helpline is a confidential service for those aged 16 or over.

SANEline is a national out-of-hours mental health helpline offering specialist emotional support, guidance and information to anyone affected by mental illness, including family, friends and carers. We are open every day of the year from 4.30pm to 10.30pm on 0300 304 7000.

Support via text

Textcare is designed to provide emotional support and connection at the times you need it most. We provide bespoke one-way messages directly to your mobile phone. Textcare is not a crisis service, and we can only respond to requests by the person who wants to receive the texts, not to ones sent on another person’s behalf.
