Description
I am a home from home childminder in Caversham Park Village I have a playroom and an enclosed garden where the children learn through play and activities. We also enjoy outings such as walks in local woods and fields, feeding the ducks, rhyme-time, toddler group, soft play.
1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
I ask parent to complete an All About Me form when they start at my setting, then I will continue to track their progress through observations, trackers and language tools. I will also talk to parents about their child and ask for details of any medical information or referrals.
2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
I will discuss these with you in person or during my daily WhatsApp updates. If I had concerns I would arrange a formal meeting to discuss your child’s needs and how I can support them.
3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
Most of the activities I plan can be adapted to suit the different needs of the children. I plan activities around the children’s interests and themes. I am happy to work with other professionals to obtain and use specialist equipment if required.
4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
I work together with families and professionals to support the child’s needs. I adjust activities and teaching to suit individuals.
I have previously worked with adults and children with learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, autism, Down Syndrome and Epilepsy, as well as dyslexia and speech and language difficulties.
I have attended courses on all of the above and also have learned and used Makaton.
I would be happy to attend more specific training if required.
5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
I have access to advice and support from the early years team and the local children’s centre. I have many years experience of working with and supporting people with additional needs and SEND.
6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
I will observe and track your child’s progress and share daily via WhatsApp. We will have regular face to face meetings to discuss your child’s progress.
7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
I plan all activities and trips and ensure they can be adapted to include any children with SEN needs. I also risk assess to ensure the activities will be safe for everyone.
8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
The ground floor of my home is wheelchair accessible except for the downstairs toilet which would be too small to allow wheelchair access. The lawned area in the garden is down several steps but the patio area can easily be accessed.
9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
It is important to begin the process of transition to a new setting early in order to allow the child to understand and adjust to their new setting. It is important to build a good relationship with the new care provider and share information to ensure a smooth transition for the child.
I have books about starting pre- school or school which I would read regularly with a child who is soon to transition.
10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
I regularly self evaluate my setting and I ask for parent feedback via questionnaires.
11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Helen Phillipps
07526645858
phillippshelen@yahoo.co.uk
12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
I welcome feedback from parents at any time. They are welcome to email me, talk to me or give me feedback via a parent questionnaire. I also have a complaints book and policy.
