Royal Berkshire Hospital Learning Disability Co-ordinator
Service is delivered to all adult patients (over 16) with a learning disability
The Learning Disability Liaison Nurse is a central contact at the hospital for families, service users, carers, community health and social welfare professionals and housing providers.
The LD liaison nurse:
- Facilitates reasonable adjustments for people with a learning disability who are using either in-patient or out-patient services at the hospital.
- Provides advice and support to staff within the hospital about how best to meet the needs of patients with a learning disability while they are using the services here.
The Trust has a bleep system for patients and carers attending out-patient clinics at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Clinic staff will try to fast track learning disability patients through but this isn’t always possible. General out- patients have their own bleeps – carers need to ask at reception in those clinics. For any of the other clinics, a bleep can be collected from the PALS office on level 2, behind Main Reception. More information on the Trust website.
There are a series of easy read leaflets available explaining some of the more common investigations that we do here and information also about some departments. These can be accessed from the Trust website.
Easy read information about other investigations, conditions and treatment can also be provided on request.
