Notes

The setting is within a three bedroom semi detached house in a residential area. I use mainly the groundfloor living room, kitchen/diner and enclosed rear garden. The rear garden is secure, with a trampoline, sandpit, water tray and climbing equipment with slide. There is also a playhouse with kitchen and ride on toys. The property is within a stones throw of a huge park with play area which we use regularly. We are within walking distance from Tilehurst village which has all kinds of shops, library, health centre, church, nursery's and schools.

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

Description

I am an Ofsted registered Childminder, working solely in a privately owned residential setting close to Tilehurst village.

Reviewed October 2023

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Prior to starting my setting I ask all parents to complete an All About Me questionnaire, this gives me a bit more information about the child before they start. I also carry out observations and complete a tracking system I do this from a system called Babys Days that is individual for each child. I also like to work closely with parents.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I will send messages via WhatsApp and Baby's Days. I will keep track of you child's development and should any issues arise you will be contacted informally or formally.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

I will adapt by completing individual planning. Using observations to create tailored next steps. Adapt routines and follow the child's interests, also getting advice from other professionals.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I think about the needs of the child, working together with parents and all professionals involved with the child to create an individual educational plan. There will be tailored resources, tools and teaching methods.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I work alongside other professionals and regularly update training. I can help parents by signposting them to other agencies that can offer support and advice.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

I run in a system called Babys Days that uses the early hers outcomes to track your child's development. I complete 2 year old checks when the child reaches the age of 2. Regular updates via WhatsApp will be sent to you. I also give ideas for home learning.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

I have a wide range of toys that vary from all ages. I will adapt resources and activities to include all the children cared for. I risk assess trips and activities to ensure they are safe for all children.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

I have 1 small step to my front door and one out into my back garden. All activities and play is downstairs in my living room. All toys are accessible.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I prepare the child for school and additional settings by building good relationships, talking about and using books and pictures. Sharing information and a transition report.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I regularly get feedback from parents via a questionnaire. Put any problems that may have arisen into an action plan and self evaluate regularly.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Vanessa Flurry

vanessaflurry17@gmail.com

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
