Autism Berkshire - Benefits Service

Autism Berkshire has been running a Benefits Advice Service for over a year now and is pleased to announce that the service is now available free of charge to non- members, as well as members of the charity. Kevin Jackson is a qualified advice worker and has also worked in the field of Learning Disability and Autism for over 15 years. He has a detailed knowledge of the Benefits system and supported adults in applying for and appealing decisions made through the DWP’s assessment processes. He has a detailed knowledge of welfare reform.

Kevin can assist parents and carers in applying for DLA for your child, Carer’s Allowance and advise on the effect of DLA on other benefits/tax allowances.

For adults Kevin can assist with moving from Incapacity Benefits to Employment Support Allowance (ESA), Job seekers allowance and Personal Independence Payments for new claimants and Housing and Council Tax benefit.

Kevin can also assist young people who turn 16 and move from DLA to PIP. Kevin also runs our 197 Club for adults with an ASC which meets at the Lookout in Reading and Level Up Computer Club for 16-25 year olds.

Kevin is available for appointments on a Monday all day and a Tuesday morning. Additionally he can do an evening appointment subject to a £25 charge.

Contact a Family Adviser at Reading Mencap Centre by telephoning 0118 966 2518 during office hours 9.30 to 1.30 Monday to Friday.  You may just want to chat to a Family Adviser to see if your child or dependant might qualify for a benefit, it is always worth checking.
