Holiday activities and food programme (HAF)

School holidays can be difficult for many families with increased costs for food and childcare, particularly this year with the impact of COVID-19 on family resources. We all want our children to return to school being physically and mentally ready for the term ahead and it is important for children and young people to engage in activities, keep healthy and stay connected.

In February 2021 BCP Council was awarded funding by the Department for Education (DfE) to support the provision of free holiday activity places for children and young people aged 5 to 16 receiving benefit based free school meals. The name of the programme is the holiday activities and food programme (HAF). We will be operating a pilot programme over Easter with a view to providing more activities over the summer and Christmas holidays.

Parents, carers, children and young people - please click on the relevant boxes below to find out more about the programme and how to take part.

Providers and educators - we are currently building our base of providers who can help deliver this exciting opportunity. We want to hear from you if you:

  • deliver holiday activities in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area and would like funding to support free places for children on free school meals
  • provide food which meets the school food standards
  • deliver nutritional education to children and families
