What qualifications do childcare staff need?
All Pre-schools, Day Nurseries and Out of School Clubs are required to employ a number of qualified staff. Currently at least half the staff in each childcare provider will have a relevant childcare qualification. They are also required to continue training and updating their knowledge on a regular basis. The qualifications and training includes topics such as Child development; safeguarding children’s wellbeing; providing the best learning and development opportunities for the children and current best practice.
All staff are checked to ensure they are suitable to look after children. This includes a Criminal Records Bureau Check, for past offences and a health check.
