Information about the cookies we store on your computer

This site uses cookies. A cookie is a text file that identifies your computer to our server. Unless you are signed in, cookies in themselves do not identify the individual user, just the computer used. You have the opportunity to set your computer to accept all cookies, to notify you when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. The way in which you do this depends upon the web browser which you use. Please refer to the "Help" function for your browser or visit www.allaboutcookies.org. If you accept cookies, they may remain on your computer, unless you delete them. Please note that turning off cookies may limit your use of our website and website services.

Cookies used by this site:

Generic Session Cookie (JSESSIONID)
This cookie is essential for various parts of the website to function properly.  This cookie expires when you close your browser.

KB5 Cookies (__KBCookie__ and __KBLoggedIn__)
KB5 manages the display of the website. These two cookies are essential for various parts of the website to function properly. __KBCookie__ contains a unique string to identify your session and __KBLoggedIn__ flags your authentication status.  These cookies expire when you close your browser.

__KBConsent__

This cookie is set at the point that the website has informed you of its use of cookies. It expires 1 year after it was first created.

Site performance cookies

We may generate cookies to assist with site performance, for example to choose video streaming speeds which are compatible with your browser.

Session cookies

Session cookies are used to remember information you enter during your visit to the site.  This is the type of cookie we place when you close the cookie statement on a page.  They are also used to remember what you have entered into forms so you can move backwards and forwards without the information disappearing.  Once you leave the website the cookies expire.

Anonymous analytics cookies:

Every time a user visits our website, web analytics software provided by Google generates an anonymous analytics cookie. These cookies can tell us whether or not you've visited the site before. Your browser will tell us if you have these cookies, and if you don't, we generate new ones. This allows us to track how many individual unique users we have, and how often they visit the site. These cookies cannot be used to identify individuals; they are used for statistical purposes only. This allows us, for example, to tell which pages are the most visited at any one time.

Registration cookies

When you register with nottinghamshire.gov.uk, we generate cookies that represent whether you are signed in or not. If you have not selected 'Remember Me,' your cookies get deleted when you either close your browser or shut down your computer.

Third party cookies

On some pages of our website, components supplied by third parties may also set their own anonymous cookies for the purposes of tracking the success of their application, or customising the application for you. Because of how cookies work we cannot access these cookies, nor can the third parties access the data in cookies used by us. This is the case for our Twitter and Facebook ‘plug ins’ as well as our use of online advertising.

We use remarketing to advertise particular services delivered by Nottinghamshire County Council across the internet, in particular on Facebook and Google’s advertising networks. Remarketing will display ads to you based on what parts of the Nottinghamshire County Council website you have viewed by placing a cookie on your web browser.

This cookie does not in any way identify you or give access to your computer or mobile device. It is used to indicate to other websites that  “This person visited a particular page, so show them ads relating to that page.”

Remarketing allows us to tailor our marketing to better suit your needs and only display ads that are relevant to you.

If you do not wish to see ads from Nottinghamshire County Council you can opt out in the following ways:

1. Opt out of Google’s use of cookies by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.

2. Opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

Stopping cookies

It is usually possible to stop your browser accepting cookies, or to stop it accepting cookies from a particular website. However, you may find that some aspects of nottinghamshire.gov.uk stop working or work less well if you do this.

All modern browsers allow you to change your cookie settings. These settings will typically be found in the 'options' or 'preferences' menu of your browser.

We do not recommend turning cookies off when visiting nottinghamshire.gov.uk, as this will prevent you from using many of the services on the site.

We do not use advertising cookies at the moment, but if you are concerned about third party cookies generated by advertisers, you can turn these off by going to the Internet Advertising Bureau's (IAB) consumer site.

You can also visit the trade body representing these advertising platforms for more information: NetworkAdvertising Initiative
