Your rights and the law

Rights help us stay safe and get fair treatment. Everyone has different rights depending on their age. Adults are allowed to do some things that children aren't. But there are also rights you'll have at any age - like the right to have free medical care if you need it.

Co-Production

London Borough of Newham is committed to improving services through listening to residents such as Citizen Assemblies which have engaged and involved residents in determining priorities.

Within Special Educational Needs and Disability, the engagement and involvement of parents and young people is key to developing support and provision in Newham. This is often referred to as co-production. Newham has held co-production meetings with parents for many years and a wide range of developments have occurred as a result of working together in this way. Some of which is outlined below.

We are now building upon this work and progressing from having separate Co-Production meetings to working even more collaboratively with parents and young people. We commit to working together from the early stage of generating ideas, through to design and implementation of services. This way of working is best practice. Working in this way is based upon people’s human rights, it is right that the voices of children, young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities are heard at both an individual level and when planning services.

To find out more about how you can work collaboratively with the local authority and other partners please contact Newham Parents Forum or SENDIASS.
