Description

Before a child officially starts at our nursery they are able to do settling in sessions. These help the child to settle into nursery and a time for parents to share information, it all depends on each individual child to how many settling in sessions they need.

Parents complete starting points of what their child can do.

Approximately six weeks after a child starts with ourselves, the key person will complete a baseline assessment, this is of all the areas of the Birth to 5 matters Guidance.  We use an online system called Famly were parents can observe their children's assessments.

The progress of all children in our care is monitored and recorded, this is reviewed regularly and shared with the parents, we work alongside them during transition to find out children's starting points on entry. All observing and tracking is linked to Birth to five matters, we include parents and value their opinions.

All 2 year olds receive a 2 year assessment check by their key person. This is shared with parents and if parents give their permission then it is also shared with the health visitor.

Our rooms offer continuous provision and staff will plan daily activities to support children's individual interests.

We work closely with many outside agencies some of these include; speech and language therapists, Educational Physiologist, SENISS and the Local Authority.

Each room has full access to an outdoor area, which is equipped with all areas of learning.

All children are supported in their transition on an individual basis and staff support them with this.

We work closely with local schools during the transition period and we invite teachers in to talk to the children. We also invite past children who attended the nursery that are now in primary school to talk to the children about what school is like.

We consult with parents on a daily basis verbally and also through our online system Famly, we also send out questionnaires for feedback of their experience here at Elm House.

Parents attend regular meetings in nursery to discuss their child's development. Parents are able to speak to their child's key person at any time.
