Special Needs Support

Daisy Chains Nursery is a privately owned Nursery that caters for up to 52 children per session.  We welcome all children and families and will make all reasonable adjustments to meet their needs.  We pride ourselves in our personal approach.  We aim to build positive relationships with the children and their families.  We want parents to be fully involved with the nursery and to share their children’s successes, achievements, concerns and hopes for the future.  We have high aspirations for all children and aim to work together with parents to support each child to develop and learn in their own way and at their own pace.

We work closely with all parents sharing information regularly, and through a rigid key person approach and close working with each individual child ensure all children are developing and learning at an age appropriate level. If there are any concerns with a child's development in any area these are identified early to ensure the child gains the additional support they may require and that suitable referrals are made to outside agencies. we will cater all for all needs and have had a broad experience of children with speech and language difficulties, Autism and chromosome disorders.

All parents are fully informed and consulted on any additional support that a child may require. All staff work closely with children, with their key person primarily supporting on implementing strategies or targets set within their sessions. The Senco of the setting will always make the necessary referrals, attend multi professional meetings and consult with parents to inform, gain consent and discuss plans. Plans are then shared with the parent/carer to sign to ensure they agree and are fully informed/involved from the start.

The curriculum used at Daisy Chains Nursery follows the EYFS development matters 2021, our approach ensures all children are seen as individuals and develop/learn at different paces. We ensure a very robust key person approach ensuring they follow a child's lead through their play to attain what children know and what they need to support in to master. All children are assessed to ensure they working at level or above, however if further support is required in one of potentially more than one area of learning then measures are put into place to ensure they reach their full potential. The curriculum is then adapted to ensure they achieve but through a different approach.

There is always opportunities to discuss and share information with parents in relation to their child(s), we are always available over the phone, email or Facebook. You can also contact us through our website and Whatsapp. We use an online app called EYlog, where all observations, planning, achievements and photographs are shared with the parent instantly. Parents can also make their own observations from home, uploading photographs and comments also. We ensure the child's key person is made available at the beginning and end of sessions we also do regular phone calls or zoom meetings with parents to update them on achievements and next steps.

There can be a variety of support offered to those children with SEND, staff have attended a variety of training courses to further their understanding and knowledge of aspects such as speech and language or autism. We have a range of tools used to support children such as choice boards to enable all children to have a voice, now and next boards along with timers or countdowns to aid transitions, Language pens and use of different languages in the setting such as Hungarian music or Nepalese books. Medical needs are always catered too ensuring we stay up to date with current legislation's, guidance and training.

All children are fully involved with all activities provided, these would be adapted if needed to ensure they do cater for all.

Our building is fully accessible to all including those who may be using a wheelchair, all areas can be accessed and a fully adapted disabled toilet is available. All areas are at a low level.

The building is fully wheelchair accessible. We have a full sensory room on site. Any child or parent who have English as an additional language are included throughout - we play stories and songs in multiple languages, we share written documents in different languages and strive to learn key words to communicate with both parent and child.
