Notes

I am a small countryside based setting. I purposely choose to keep my setting small so that I can give each child the attention they deserve.  I have over the past 24 years had experience supporting and nurturing children with SEND. We have plenty of outside space and are lucky enough to have some beautiful surrounding areas and local groups and activities to make the days fun filled for the children.

Description

My setting has always been an inclusive setting  With many years experience working with children with varying needs, I always strive to provide a stimulating and nurturing environment for all children, taking careful consideration of differing needs, abilities and disabilities so that every child can develop to their full academic, social and emotional potential. Safeguarding and wellbeing is a high priority.  As a small setting I endeavour to celebrate differences through our values of compassion, hope, wisdom and reverence and promote respect and tolerance for all.

I recognise that every child is unique and seek to ensure that my learning environments and wider support is carefully designed to match the differing needs of every child.

Special Needs Support

Through regular monitoring, milestone assessments and feedback with parents on their child's progress, I am able to identify any areas for focus and potential graduated approach to ensure that we are all able to come together to put processes in place for the best outcome for the child.

I am in contact with parents daily with updates on how their child's day is going and carry out regular assessments using the KCC Milestone assessment tool kit. Regular reports/reviews are given to parents on the prime and additional areas of learning. and how best to incorporate practices to support a child to achieve these goals. Apart from daily discussion, the parents are also given the opportuntity to give written feedback via a questionnaire if there are any areas I could enhance their childs time with me. If there are EHC plans in place, I would work with the parent to ensure I am up to speed on how best to support their child and take on any training necessary to ahelp them to achieve their goals.

Each child is unique therefore their activities woud be structured to meet their level of ability and encourage them to achieve goals and milestones.

We have a range of sensory and learning aids to help stimulate and encourage children at all levels of ability. Games and activities would be structured to ensure inclusion for all. One to one time to focus on any specific areas for development will be planned into the day. Regular messaging contact with photos are sent to parents to update on any new achivements and next steps to support these.

A range of resources are available and if there is a healthcare plan in place, or working towards a plan,  I am happy to take on any training or be part of that learning journey to supprt both the child and parents.

Through regular monitoring and assessment and any targetted areas for development, I will use the KCC MAT Tool kit alongside any specific targetted approaches for an individual child and the child's progress will be reported to the parent on a regular basis through both face to face discussion and written reports where the parent also has the opportunity to feedback via a questionnaire any areas they wish to discuss or develop further or comment on the service I provide.

A risk assessment is made for any planned trips to ensure it is suitable for all children including those with additional needs or SEND.  The same applies to any craft, sensory or physical activities. Plans are made to ensure that these activities can be adapted to suit an individual's needs and ensure inclusion.

Our entrance has no steps and wide accessible doors so suitable for people with mobility difficulties and wheelchair users

We regularly discuss next transition stages wth children to help boost their confidence and get them ready.  We attend various toddler groups, story and rhyme time, forest schools etc. so that they can experience mixing with a wider group of children and gain new experiences. We focus on the next learning steps to help them achieve these in readiness for pre-school or school.

Through regular assessment and carrying out any training available to me to enhance my service. Parents are given the opportunity to comment on my provision and any ways I can improve to help their child through regular updates, reports and questionnaires.

Angela Wyatt

As stated above, we talk on a regular basis, message daily with updates and periodic written reports on progress with an added questionnnaire to give the parent the opportunity to give their feedback so that we can enhance my service to best support their child.
