Becoming a childminder

For those wishing to become a childminder in Islington, the Early Years and Childcare team offer a 'pathway' to becoming registered with Ofsted. The support provided is a mixture of essential information, training and ongoing advice including:

  • Information Sessions
The Family Information Service, FIS, runs short information sessions at local children's centres every month. No need to book, just come to a session and meet the Childminding and Childcare Information Officer who will explain what is involved in becoming a childminder. You can ask questions and find out about support available to you. The next information session is on 26 April 2017.
  • Pre-registration Briefings
Attend a free 3 hour pre-registration briefing to receive essential information about the Ofsted application process and training for prospective childminders. The next briefing is on Tuesday 23 May 2017, 10am-1pm. Book online through the IslingtonCS Training and Services Hub.
  • Islington Childminding Training
This is a 3 day course available 3 times per year. The next course is planned for June 2017, 10am-3pm, cost £200, dates to be confirmed. For more information and to book go to the IslingtonCS Training and Services Hub. Dates of the next course to be confirmed.
