Liberty (National Council For Civil Liberties)

You might not think about human rights every day, but life would be very different without them.

They mean you cannot be tortured, enslaved, or punished without trial. You can speak freely, protest peacefully and believe what you like. You have the right to a family, to privacy, to an education. You have the right to life.

We take our basic freedoms for granted, but they exist today only because people have been prepared to defend them.

Founded in 1934, we are a cross party, non-party membership organisation promoting the values of individual human dignity, equal treatment and fairness as the foundations of a democratic society in England and Wales.

We campaign to protect basic rights and freedoms through the courts, in Parliament and in the wider community through a combination of public campaigning, test case litigation, parliamentary lobbying, policy analysis and the provision of free advice and information.
