Child Development Team (CDT)

If you are concerned about your child's development, the Child Development Team are responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and supporting, children with developmental difficulties, mostly usually those under 5 years old but also older children in some circumstances.

The Child Development team includes paediatricians, clinical nurse specialists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, audiologists, special school nurses and specialist community nurses. The CDT is part of ESCAN (Ealing Services for Children with Additional Needs) and based at Carmelita House at Ealing Broadway. Clinics are run at different locations across Ealing, including Carmelita House, Acton Health Centre, Featherstone Road Health Centre and many nurseries and schools.

The CDT are based at Carmelita House in Ealing Broadway, although clinics are run in health centres and children’s centres across the borough.

Referral Details
  • Any professional such as a GP, paediatrician, health visitor, or SENCO can make a referral to the Child Development Team.
    • Some teams have specific referral requirements, for example: children in school needing SLT assessment must be referred via the school to the link therapist. Please see individual team pages for further information
  • How to make a referral to the Child Development Team depends on the service required. For referral processes, please visit the individual services ( OT, SLT, PT, Audiology, nursing and community paediatrics) on Children's services :: West London NHS Trust

Please note:

  • The child/young person must be registered with an Ealing GP in order for the referral to be accepted by the CDT Team.  
  • Children with out of borough GPs will be advised to seek referral to the borough their GP practice is registered with.
  • Children who live too far outside of Ealing will be advised to change GP to one in the same borough they live in and be re-referred in that borough.
