We are welcoming to all children and their families. We form strong partnerships with parents and recognise that they are the prime educators of their children.
Our nursery team has a wealth of experience working with children who have a range of individual needs. On admission to nursery children are allocated a key person who will build a trusting relationship with both the child and their family. The child's key person will listen to parent’s views on their child’s needs and any concerns. The key person carries out an initial assessment on the child using information gained from the family and their observations within nursery. These assessments are carried out each term and help to identify any special educational needs.
We use children's interests and planned next steps to help us plan and deliver the early year’s curriculum to meet every child's individual learning needs.
We work in partnership with other professionals, for example Health Visitors to provide all round care of the child. The nursery has a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who will support staff in making referrals to other professionals and seek advice from the Early Years Advisory team where needed, for example to request additional funding to promote the development of an individual child. The whole team have had training in a variety of areas of special educational needs including speech and language and Autistic Spectrum Difficulties. The team constantly keep their training up to date in SEN.
We aim to make our environment friendly and welcoming to all children and their families. Our nursery is accessible for wheelchairs. If a child requires any specialist equipment or one-to-one care, they would arrange this for them.
To support children's transition to their next educational setting, we aim to form strong links through two way visits and use photographs, books and other resources that may help support the child in their transition taking their individual needs into account.
We have an open door policy and our team are always happy to discuss children's individual needs and offer support to families.
