Building Blocks Child Care
I offer ‘30 hours childcare for working parents’ in partnership with other childcare in my area.
I also offer 15 hours for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. These hours can be done alongside another Early Years setting, ideally within the local area.
I have vacancies available now, for both funded childcare as well as private. Please contact me if you are requiring childcare from this time onwards!
I am a very experienced Childminder (Ofsted Rated Good) and I am located at the top of Willington.
I live with my husband Alan and our two girls aged 11 and 9 1/2 years old.
I have worked in Early Years throughout my working life and have so much to offer. I am qualified to Level 4 in Early Years and have lots of training under my belt. I’ve worked as a sole charge nanny, working on cruise ships as a child counsellor, working in day nurseries and more recently I was a Family Worker working alongside a Health Visiting team and social services, working from Family / Children's Centres in the Bishop Auckland area.
The experience I have gained over the years has been a valuable tool.
I am continually keeping up to date with regular training, through Durham County Council and I am updating my SEND training.
I offer a quality service within a safe, homely environment where your child will be looked after and cared for. Learning through play are the building blocks of life.
The Early Years Foundation Stage is a very important part of the Early Years curriculum, to following your child’s development, this will be updated on a regular basis. Each child will be tracked regularly, and they will also have a Learning Journal, which is updated regularly.
I currently have some availability during the end of the week for a 3/4 year olds. I aim to be flexible if required. Please contact me for more information.

I have a got some training in SEND, and I am happy to continue updating this. Most of my experience is hands on with children with special needs.
I currently look after a 8 year old boy with complex needs during the school holidays. He has Downs Syndrome, is on the Autistic spectrum and sensory issues.
I would consider taking care of another child with special needs if i was approached. I would be happier taking on an older child as this is where my main experience lies.

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?
- How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?
From the onset, the childminder has discussions with parents/carers about the development of their child, any areas of concern, and working in partnership with other settings caring for the child will support assessment. Through regular observations and assessments, children with special needs can be identified. Once a child has been identified as having a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND) the SEND code of practice will be followed. Activities will be created that promote the development of all children and adjusted to include any special need children.
How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?
- How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?
By observation, planning, assessment and tracking, the childminder can see where a child’s level of development is progressing, and where extra support is required.

- What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?
Experience working one to one with children with SEND, and experience working with outside agencies such as SALT and OT.
I have also worked in outreach and worked as a Family Worker for over 10 years, gaining a lot of hands on experience and knowledge and have also worked in a nursery environment before that.
Also, I have done some training through the early years team involved with SEND.
How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)
- How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)
The outdoors can be accessible as and when required to an enclosed rear garden. The sunroom / play area has access through patio doors, and the front door is also available for easier access if required. My Cosy Room is just on the left and is a nice calm area for chilling out and relaxing in.
The local area has a Toddler Group, allotments, community garden, community pond, 2 parks, and a library as well as other shops.
