How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?
- How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?
Children are assessed continually from the start of their journey. We do this through observation and assessments. If we feel there is a SEN, we would then gather as much evidence as possible before speaking to parents and gaining permission to involve other agencies.
We always work very closely with parents/carers throughout the childs journey.
How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?
- How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?
Our setting matches the curriculum to the childs ability and developmental needs rather than to there age. Not all children develop at the same rate and we embrace this fully throughout the whole of the nursery.
What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the early years setting?
- What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the early years setting?
Our manager is trained in BLAST a speech and language programme.
All staff are trained in Understanding Autism.
What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?
- What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?
Our SENDCo has completed the training course which allows her to be SENDCo of the setting. She regularly attends any courses which will help the children in the setting now and the future. All staff are trained in Understanding Autism and regularly undertake training to help support all of the children in our setting.
How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)
- How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)
Our setting does not have an outdoors area. The setting does have quite a few stairs inside, however we always will make reasonable adjustments to the setting and the rooms to accommodate all children.
How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?
- How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?
Here at our setting we offer a fantastic transition to the next stage of learning. We have a great relationship with Greenland Primary School where transitions begin after Easter. We take the children who will be attending that particular school every week for visits where the children take part in the day to day activities of the classroom. However, if your child won't be attending Greenland Primary School, we will work very closely with you on how the transition will best fit for you and your child.
