How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

We have specific individualised planning, progress summary assessment reports, flying from the Start Assessments, EHC Plans and individual SEN action plans in place to access the progression in learning and development.

We work with the child, family, staff and key professionals to assess the child. We strongly believe in making sure the child's choice, thoughts and opinions are reflected in everything we do.

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

Our special carer staff have knowledge of the EYFS, schemes and Early Years theories which are all references in making sure appropriate learning provocations are provided for each child so they can develop and learn in their own time and at their own rate.

Our nursery specific planning documentation really helps to highlight the differentiation in learning which we offer to all children.

Staff have a wealth of knowledge, training and experience of working with SEN children.

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

All staff are trained to work with all children including those with SEN. Our staff have 24/7 access to training which is specifically arranged to improve each individual staff members knowledge and development, this in turn impacts on the high quality and care which we offer.

SEN specific training is sought when SEN is identified for any child or families to make sure we have the most up to date knowledge as possible.

Our Nursery Manager at Seaham has a Level 3 SENDco National Award.

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

The 0-5 years childcare is based on the ground floor of the nursery with access to all outdoor areas from individual rooms. Reasonable adjustments will be made to ensure children can access as much of the nursery as possible with the support of a member of the team.

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

We have a Provision Liaison Co-ordinator whose job it is to make sure that all children are prepared for all transitions, including the family. They will work with the child, family, setting and professionals to make sure all transitions are as smooth as possible.
