How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

We have specific individualised planning, progress summary assement reports, Flying from the Start Assessments, EHC Plans and individual SEN action plans in place to access the progression in learning and development.

We work with the child, family, staff and key professionals to assess the child. We strongly believe in making sure the childs choice, thoughts and opinions are reflected in everything we do.

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

Our special carer staff have knowledge of the EYFS, schemes and Early Years theories which are all references in making sure appropriate learning provocations are provided for each child so they can develop and learn in their own time and at their own rate.

Our nursery specific planning documentation really helps to highlight the differentiation in learning which we offer to all children.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the early years setting?

Staff liaise with the area SENCo on a regular basis and have strong links with the local Children's Centre where they can go for support and advice for families.

Staff have good relationships with other agencies such as SALT and Educational Psychologists, who the nursery have worked with regarding children attending the setting.

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

All staff are trained to work with all children including those with SEN. Our staff have 24/7 access to training which is specifically arranged to improve each individual staff members knowldge and development, this in turn impacts on the high quality and care whhich we offer.

SEN specific training is sought when SEN is identified for any child or families to make sure we have the most up to date knowledge as possible.
