Audrey Ellen Cooke

I offer ‘30 hours childcare for working parents’.

I am a childminder located in Pity Me and have lived in Durham since I was born.

After leaving school at 18 with all of my GCSEs and A levels, I got a job at MENCAP where I worked with adults with learning disabilities for nearly three years. I then worked for a local private nursery for almost ten years, gaining a Nursery Nurse qualification, and was head of room for 1.5 - 2 year olds.

I then decided to start childminding after the birth of my second child. I live with my husband and two children, in a light and airy house with plenty of space to play and a lovely big garden.

I attend various training courses such as Safeguarding, Inclusion and Diversity and a three yearly paediatric first aid which is required by law. I am always looking at ways to continuously develop my knowledge.

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

I regularly attend various training courses which benefits my personal knowledge and development greatly.

I am inclusive of all people and work closely with families, nurseries and schools to provide good care and communication between all parties.

I give daily feedback to parents and carers about the child, through verbal, text or email. I will provide information not only on the child's daily routine, wellbeing and development but also about any concerns I may have. I am willing to work alongside any other professions with parental permission.

I keep an up to date Learning Journey on all the children in her care. These files show how the childminder supports and encourage your child's development. Activities and the interests of your child are used to plan and encourage their development further.

I regularly take the children on trips to benefit their development, time and experience while in my care.

I attend weekly soft play sessions to help with physical and social skills. I also attend toddler groups and sometimes baby gyms.

I travel by car to visit museums such as The Oriental Museum, The Sunderland Winter Gardens, Discovery and Hancock Museums in Newcastle and the Botanical Gardens in Durham.

We visit various parks, farms and wildlife sanctuaries and love to explore Durham's natural beauty by spending sunny days having picnics at Finchale Abby.

I have only ever had positive feedback from parents about the activities and outings I provide.

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

I currently do not care for any children with SENs but I am booked onto an SEND Awareness course to give me a wider understanding.

I have in the past worked for MENCAP with adults who have special needs so I have some previous knowledge of the support systems required.

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

I have a clean and airy house with ample room for play and activities. There is a large conservatory which is used as a playroom, and this room has direct access out into a large, secure and private garden. The house is detached allowing access at either side - however the gates remain locked at all times. There are small steps both into the house at the front and out into the garden at the back. The garden is flat with both paved and grass areas and the drive is large and block paved allowing easy access in at the front of the house.

I ask parents to drop all children off to the back door as this gives a safer, more secure area for the children.

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

I always maintain good communication. Diaries, permission to share information sheets and communication books are kept between the childminder and any other nurseries/childcare settings working with the child. I will do whatever I can to support a child moving on from her setting. This can be a very exciting but daunting time for a child so I believe in being open, honest and working together to show them stability and security.
