Westfield House Nursery and After School Club

We offer ‘30 hours childcare for working parents’.

We have a variety of options available at Westfield House and parents can choose to stretch the funding over the whole year (22 hours a week) or opt for term time only.

We provide high quality care and education for children in a positive play based learning environment. We aim to create an environment that is welcoming, safe and stimulating, where all children are motivated to explore, discover, learn and grow in confidence.

We promote the early years foundation stage (EYFS) framework and the curriculum is flexible and emerges from children's ideas, thoughts and observations. Our goal is to cultivate within the children a lifelong passion for learning and exploration! Our learning environment is welcoming, light and airy and well-resourced with a huge garden and an enclosed courtyard.

We work hard on making the nursery environment beautiful and inspiring and provide the children with lots of open-ended, natural and reclaimed resources to develop their imaginations and creativity both indoors and outdoors.

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

How does the early year's provision identify and assess children with special educational needs and disabilities?

All children are given transitional visits before they start at Westfield House. This ensures that parents are able to share as much information prior to their child starting and provides practitioners with starting points for their child’s learning and development. We use our observations to plan for learning opportunities based around children’s individual interests and these are used to feed into the EYFS assessment ‘Flying from the start’. This informs the children’s learning journey and daily diaries, we share this information with parents and any concerns with parents we have and agree strategies to best support the child. Working with parents, our SENCO and the child’s key person we will then put a support plan in place. If we identify that any additional support is needed, we will put in a referral (with parental permission) and work closely with parents and any other professionals involved.

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

How will the curriculum be matched to meet children's developmental needs?

The support plan is created using the child’s individual interests, needs and next steps. This is then used to inform our planning and enhance our learning environment. This ensures that children’s developmental needs are supported with learning opportunities matching the needs of each child.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the early years setting?

We welcome the involvement of parents/carers and all services involved with the child into nursery. We will work with any specialist services to ensure each individual child’s needs are met. We use the SEND service for further information and attend SEND business meetings regularly to ensure we are up to date with information and latest training.

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had, or are having?

Staff receive specific training for the children they care for and work with parents and professionals already involved with the child.

Currently we have experience in caring for children with Autism, communication delay, hyper mobility.

How accessible is the early years setting environment? (indoors/outdoors)

The nursery provides care over two floors- Sunshine room (first floor) and the Rainbow room (ground floor). We have an enclosed courtyard and large garden with wheelchair access. Parking is located to the side of the building and at the front of the building the nursery can be accessed via a ramp or steps.

We are happy to adapt our provision where we can.

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

How will the early years provision prepare and support my child(ren's) transition to their next educational establishment?

At Westfield house we ensure that all transitions are handled sensitively and children with SEND are given extensive levels of support. We work closely with parents and new settings to ensure that information is shared and transition visits planned. Teachers or support staff are invited into the setting, to give them an opportunity to get to know the child, meet them in an environment they are comfortable with and discuss routine and interests etc with their key person.
