Children's Centre - Greengate (Barrow)

Action for Children

Greengate Early Help is the hub of central ward.

We like to engage with our families at that very early stage and through links with the midwives and health visitors we provide relaxing and informative programmes for our ante and post-natal mums.

We have a huge focus on making children’s learning visible, and provide a friendly and exciting environment for children 0-12, including Baby Days, Little Explorers and Play to Learn.  We have strong links with the nurseries and work closely with them.  We have a big emphasis on supporting families to be healthy by providing Cook & Eat and the HENRY course.

We have a range of adult learning courses, including parenting, self-esteem and support for ladies who have been in a domestic abuse relationship.

On a Wednesday evening we have an action packed group for children with additional needs.

On a Monday evening we run a vital supported contact service, this is the only one in the Furness area.

We have a sensory room which can be booked and used by anyone with a child/young person.  The centre also has a sound proof room which is used by the audiology team.

Greengate Early Help is used by many other organisations, including Cumbria County Council for their youth provision.  Oaklea, Autus and Rainbow House Cumbria for children with additional needs, we have health visitors based within the centre, and have community midwifery services running.  We provide space for Sedbergh Drive for their outreach work, the local CDC run adult courses and every second Saturday of the month Parentcraft hold their ante-natal session.
