Here at Discovery Childcare Ltd, we make it our top priority to gain as much information about a child before they start the setting to ensure all their individual needs are met. We aim to work in partnership with parents where a child has a medical need or disability. We have an onsite Special Educational needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), this allocated person has had access to training and courses to further develop their skills and knowledge.
We have a well-established Key Person system in place, each member of staff have a group of children that they observe and plan for to help them progress in their development as well as possible throughout their time at nursery.
Children’s progress is regularly tracked and monitored and reviewed with parents every term and more regularly if needed.
If a member of staff feels they have a concern regarding a child’s development, they will inform and share their concerns with the setting SENCO who will then arrange a meeting with the child’s parents/carers to discuss the concerns further. The SENCO alongside the parents will complete an Early help assessment, following this the child’s key person will put a SEN support Plan in place to support the child with their development. We will occasionally use an early year’s developmental journal which breaks down the EYFS ages and stages and helps the child to achieve more appropriate and manageable next steps.
Practitioners will work closely with professionals such as children’s services, speech and language therapists (SALT) Occupational therapists (OT) Health visitors etc. we will hold and attend team around the family meetings (TAF) with the child’s parents to discuss progress and set achievable goals.
Staff receive quality in house and professional training.
