Oaklea Trust (Right2Work)

Since September 2011 we have been collecting and recycling unwanted furniture from residents throughout South Cumbria and, with a clear focus on recycling, reusing and by directing waste away from landfill we are fulfilling a valuable community role.

Through sales, refurbishing and recycling we have been able to divert items destined for waste away from landfill and in 2015/16 alone over 101 tons of waste was saved from entering landfill sites and we are well on target to achieve similar results this year.

The Furniture Warehouse therefore offers a real working environment where participants can learn practical skills from qualified tutors. Progression is measured using a modular approach.

With a variety of roles available within this operation our Day Placement Customers have the chance to undertake a number of work modules, enabling us to chart each individual’s progress in a range of areas whilst facilitating an increase in their employability skills. Modules in Recycling, Deliveries and Collections, Retail, Furniture Refurbishing, General Workplace Skills, Employability, Office Administration and Domestic Appliance Maintenance are currently on offer.

Participants are supported to develop skills ranging from social interaction and safe workplace behaviours, through to domestic appliance repairs and furniture re-upholstery
