Gilsland CofE Primary School
Gilsland C of E Primary School is committed to providing the best quality education for every child. Children enter school with an eagerness and enthusiasm for learning. We seek to sustain and nurture this love of learning. We are also committed to working in partnership with you to achieve this aim.
At our school we foster positive attitude where all can flourish in a caring, yet challenging environment. We believe that the primary years are a vitally important time for sowing the seeds of curiosity, fostering good working habits and encouraging a love of learning. We aim to help all children to settle in happily and to feel enthusiastic about their work.
We have a dedicated team of experienced staff who set high standards of expectation and work hard to ensure that children of all abilities succeed. Our Governing Body play a welcome and active part in the life of our school.

Our aim is to ensure that all pupils receive the best opportunities, help and support to achieve success. About one in five of all pupils have a specific special need at some point in their school career. We place high emphasis on the early identification of any such difficulty and plan practical measures between school and home to address the problem.
If we have a concern regarding an aspect of a child’s learning or behaviour, the parent will be contacted immediately to discuss the best way forward. Plans will be made to address the problem, with the school and parent working in partnership. If adequate progress is not made after a set time has elapsed, then a revised plan will be drawn up between teacher and parents.
The SEN code of practice (DfES January 2001) will be used to inform all decisions.
