Children's Centre - Newbarns (Barrow)

Action for Children

Newbarns Children’s Centre provides a friendly, positive experience for our children and families.

We welcome everyone seeking Early Help support, offering services such as Play and Learn Together sessions, as well as learning opportunities in parenting, healthy living and wellbeing. Working in partnership we can also signpost parents to services to help them with debt worries and returning to work. Our Family Support enables us to tailor service plans to both families and individual needs.

Most of our services are aimed at children aged 0-5 years but we also offer support for families with older children up to 12 years, at home, in the centre or in schools.

Our aspiration for all of our children is for them to be secure, resilient, sociable, curious explorers, creative imaginers, and to reach their full potential.

Ever wanted to get involved with the Children’s Centres to gain experience or share your skills?  Then why not volunteer?  It’s a great way to get involved with your local Children’s Centre, meet people and learn new skills.

It’s easy to apply, there’s a volunteer induction to help you prepare for becoming a volunteer and with an Action for Children certificate for each session – so good to add to your CV too!  On-going training (including access to staff training) and out-of-pocket expenses are provided, plus supervision and support to ensure your volunteering is going well.

There are varied volunteering roles – something for everyone!  Whatever your goal there’s a role to help you gain relevant experience.  These include: Family Learning, Family Support, Breastfeeding Supporter, Health and Well-being, Play to Learn Team, Administrative Support Team, Trainee Counsellors, Resilience Services.

Volunteering is a great stepping stone to work or training and Action for Children can provide work experience, student placements and apprenticeships too.  We have between 5 and 10 volunteers of all ages in each centre and we have volunteer meetings and events.
