Children's Centre - Dalton

Action for Children

The team at Dalton Children's Centre aim to provide a nurturing, supportive and respectful environment where families of all kinds are welcomed and celebrated.  It's a place where children and families feel valued and safe and where everyone is encouraged to flourish.

We're committed to providing services that meet the needs of local families so as well as some great play opportunities, parents can receive advice on returning to work, finding childcare and all aspects of family health and wellbeing.

Most of our services are aimed at children aged 0-5 years but we also offer support for families with older children up to 12 years, at home, in the centre or in schools.

Our aspirations for all of our children is for them to be secure, resilient, sociable, curious explorers, creative imaginers and to reach their full potential.  But enough of what we think... what do local families think?

"Everyone was really friendly - it was our first visit"

"Good talking to other Mums"

"Staff are really lovely"

"Thank you for a fun filled session"

"The healthy snacks went down a treat!"

"Bit of time out for Mum"

"I have learnt skills that I will definitely use"

"As a grandparent looking after my grandchildren, first aid was brilliant and I'll use the skills learnt everyday"

It’s easy to apply, there’s a volunteer induction to help you prepare for becoming a volunteer and with an Action for Children certificate for each session – so good to add to your CV too!  On-going training (including access to staff training) and out-of-pocket expenses are provided, plus supervision and support to ensure your volunteering is going well.

There are varied volunteering roles – something for everyone!  Whatever your goal there’s a role to help you gain relevant experience.  These include: Family Learning, Family Support, Breastfeeding Supporter, Health and Well-being, Play to Learn Team, Administrative Support Team, Trainee Counsellors, Resilience Services.

Volunteering is a great stepping stone to work or training and Action for Children can provide work experience, student placements and apprenticeships too.  We have between 5 and 10 volunteers of all ages in each centre and we have volunteer meetings and events.
